We all have the power to believe in ourselves. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. Henry Ford was right when he said: “Whether you think you can or that you can’t, you are usually right”.
As a Life Coach and Mentor, who works in the areas of self-belief, confidence and personal development, allow me to share a few simple steps to help you become more confident and have greater self-belief.
Draw up a list of all your strengths, your successes and achievements throughout your life. Write them down and read these affirmations out aloud to yourself each day. If need be, display them throughout your house, in the office. Be reminded daily of how amazing you are.
Remind yourself daily of everything that is good about yourself, your life. Compose a gratitude mantra and again repeat to yourself daily. It’s surprising when you realise how much you have to be grateful for.
Notice how you to talk to yourself internally and externally. The language you use when you speak to yourself or to others. Are you filling your head with negative rather than positive thoughts? If so, start to recognise when this happens and turn these thoughts around. Don’t criticise yourself or others. Instead, use kind language and spot the difference in your response. Think of each negative thought as a weed and every time one fills your head, pull it out and fill its place with a beautiful flower.
Focus on the positive lessons you have learnt rather than on the mistakes that you have made. Learn from these and move on and remember it’s not how we make mistakes that define us, but how we correct them.
Surround yourself with positive influences. Take a look at your friends and ask yourself do they build me or hold me back? Do they support me? Want me to succeed or to fail or simply don’t care? Remember who you spend the most time with is who you become and their behaviour will impact on your own self-belief and confidence.
Find positive role models you can identify with. Someone who inspires you, motivates you, makes you dream. Will encourage you to believe you can achieve anything you put your mind to and don’t listen to anyone who laughs at your thoughts and dreams. That is their insecurity, not yours.
Love yourself and I mean really love yourself. Learn to be at peace with yourself in your world and forgive yourself and others. Release yourself from the past, from any resentments you may still harbour.
You will never have the opportunity to live today again so savour every moment. There is beauty in everything that we do and we need to remind ourselves that we ourselves add something very special to this day, to our world and to the lives of others. So start to believe in yourself and watch your confidence grow.
